AKC Scent Work Department, Penelope Scott-Fox, and NORCAL Golden Retriever Club present a Two-Day Seminar for AKC Scent Work Judges and Judge Candidates

About the Presenter:
Penelope Scott Fox is one of the ‘original seven’ founding instructors of the National Association of Canine Scent Work and originator of Scott-Fox Pet Dog Training. She is an expert in scent theory and hide placement, and is eager to impart her wisdom to AKC Scent work judges and those planning on becoming judges.
This two day seminar satisfies the seminar option for new judge candidates and counts as continuing education for current judges. Some judges may be asked to bring their dog for demonstration purposes. If not requested, NO DOGS will be allowed at this seminar.
NOTE: Attendance both days is mandatory to fulfill the above-mentioned options.
There will be Auditor spots available for those who would like to attend as non-participants. (Auditors may NOT ask questions or bring dogs)
This seminar will cover the following:
• Scent Theory
• General expectations of judges
• Picking and planning search areas
• General hide placement considerations
• Searches by class level, hide placement, test challenges, judging the search
• The Detective Class
• Handling difficult exhibitors
• Logistical considerations
Hands on learning will take place. Attendees will break into groups to design searches for each class and difficulty level. Dog/handler teams will run “blind searches” with the participants acting as the judge. After the search, the instructor will discuss the search design, hide placement, and judging performance with the group.
