NORCAL Golden Retriever Club and Marin Retriever Club (both members of the Master National Retriever Club) are pleased to announce they are hosting AKC approved BASIC and ADVANCED Retriever Hunt Test Seminars for Judges and Handlers.
We’d like to thank California Retriever Training Association for partnering with us, and allowing us to use their property located at 3836 Denverton Road, Suisun City, CA 94585 for the field portion on Sunday, 5/21.
Check-in begins at 7:45 am on Friday and Saturday mornings at the Kroc Center in Suisun City to complete necessary AKC paperwork. The seminar will start promptly at 8:30am.
A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided on all seminar days.
We are limiting both seminars to 50 attendees each.

Basic Seminar
Date: Friday, May 19, 2023
Location: Salvation Army Kroc Center, 586 E. Wigeon Way, Suisun City, CA 94585
The Basic Seminar consists of 8 hours of classroom where we discuss the purpose of the Hunt Test, Performance Standards for Junior, Senior and Master level hunt test scoring, Judges’ Guidelines, and other pertinent Hunt Test Information.
This seminar is designed to develop a greater degree of uniformity in the evaluation by judges at all three levels and to improve Handlers’ understanding of the regulations, guidelines, performance standards and test requirements.
The Basic seminar is suitable for current Judges, people interested in becoming Judges, as well as Handlers interested in learning more about the requirements needed for all hunt test levels.
Advanced Seminar
Date: Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21, 2023
Saturday Location: Salvation Army Kroc Center, 586 E. Wigeon Way, Suisun City, CA 94585
Sunday Location: CRTA Denverton Grounds, 3836 Denverton Road, Suisun City, CA 94585
The Advanced Seminar does not count as the initial one-day basic AKC Seminar as it contains different subject matter.
This is a two-day Seminar with one day of indoor classroom instruction. The second day of this seminar will view and discuss actual dog work in the field for developing, running, and judging Hunt Tests at the Master, Senior and Junior levels.
The purpose of the Advanced Hunting Test Seminar is to educate you with what your Pre-Test responsibilities are, what is expected of you when asked to Judge, set-up and planning the Hunting situation, Judge’s authority, the dog’s abilities and evaluating and scoring.
Participants will have the opportunity to watch, Judge and score each dog’s performance on the Tests designed with time spent critiquing each dog’s performance and why the scores were assigned.
The Advanced seminar is open to anyone. It is especially useful for new Judges that have attended the basic one day AKC Hunt Test Seminar and have attained some judging experience through apprenticeships and/or actual judging, but this is not a requirement to attend.
Cost
Basic Seminar: $69.85
Advanced Seminar: $104.85
Basic and Advanced Seminars Combined: $144.85
